The worst luck hiring sales people.

As some of you recently read, I just hird a new sales guy. He just left the company. I don't really consider it a loss as I have been really thinking the last few days that perhaps I made the wrong decision hiring this person. He had immediate results but was way too "Sales" like a used car salesman for my company. This is going to set me back on my year end goal.

Reason he's leaving... He found some place to give him a $1,200 a week salary. I was paying him $500 a week draw and 40% of the gross profit from each sale.

I'm not sure why I have the worst luck finding and hiring good quality reliable sales people.

I set a goal and am still working it. Year end or bust. I put up a few more ads again.

I think the last guy got paid very generously, overly generous. More generous than I was ever paid, more generous than anyone I know was ever paid. Just goes to prove you can't pick up someone with a high compensation package because their loyalty is not to you but to your money and they will jump ship for someone with deeper pockets in a heart beat.

Company Truck, gas card, draws/advances, 40% of gross, expense reimbursements, leads provided + SPOILED. I'd probably give up my company tomorrow for a gig like that.

Year end or bust.

1) Wife and I do not believe in day care.

2) I also do not believe that a company should revolve around one person. If I were doing all the sales myself, why wouldn't I just go work for someone else? I want a company that generates me money, not a company that I generate money for it.

I'm not going to work MY ass off again so someone else can profit from my hard work. Been there, done that, hired too many guys (sales and other wise) in the past who were a detriment to the bottom line, rather than a benefit to the bottom line. If I have to sell my ass off to afford to pay the advertising budget to get you leads.... and you NOT to sell? What sense does that make?

Properly afford an estimator? 40% gross profit is not a proper afford? I mean come on, anyone who wants a $60k SALARY as a salesman is ridiculous. Your job is to sell, why should you get paid NOT to do your job? I was giving a $500 a week draw to cover his necessities. I thought I was being way more than fair.

A $1,200 a week salary for a salesman are you kidding me? At 40% of the gross he had WAY over $100k a year earning potential.

Who here pays their sales reps a salary, and if so, who here pays their sales reps a salary of $50k a year?
