Re: Sales copy for my home page.

Sometimes the "respected professional " just dont get it. Do they?

I've been reading some things on Contractor Talk about this. Seems the experts say that the copy should read more about the customer than about you.

Maybe something like "Is your roof ugly?, leaking? in need of repair? Who can you call that you can trust? Lefty has been repairing roofs in your neighborhood for since 1776. And other than the small crack that he put in the Liberty Bell, all of his customers have been happy. etc."

Sounds like you have a good handle on internet marketing. How many jobs did you get from your website last year?

Thats a mighty lengthy list Jack.

Is that your idea center for future articles or titles from some other source out there?

These are some headlines to help you get past writers block.

You can change it, add to it or ignore it, whatever you want to do.

Just trying to create some symbiosis.

I average a dozen calls / emails a month from my area, atleast that many more from outside of my area. "average 70 unique hits weekly"
The majority of which are for repairs or inspections.
If you consider repairs and inspections jobs, I got 48 through my website last year.
If your only talking full roofs,
I estimated 13 and did 8.
I also referred 15 re-roof estimates off to 3 different other roofers here in my area because I didn't have time 'manpower' to do them.

I agree and disagree. Let me explain. A website is something that just about anyone can do, but not everyone.

Not everyone has the technical saavy to maintain a site, the artistic imagination to design a beautiful and easily navigated site, and the knack for marketing to get it top listed organically.

You don't have to be a web designer to design a great looking, well functioning, and top ranked site. It is something numerous roofers we know have accomplished. But we also both know numerous roofers that would be lost even registering the domain name or getting setup with a web hosting company.

For examply my wife can barely draw stick figures, she'd be lost designing a site that wouldn't make people laugh and click the back button. She'd be a good candidate to pay someone should she ever need a website. However just like anyone, her talents are differnt than mine, and I can't do half the things she has accomplished. It's just a matter of the particular person's skill set and comfort level.

Personally I "can" and have built my own websites but I am at the point where time resitrcs me from doing more and I'll have to pay a person to take care of my punch list of miscellaneous improvements.

I see what your saying, but the people who can't do their own for what ever reason wouldn't be participating in a conversation here about doing their own, thus just the fact that Lefty was asking suggest he is capable and I was directing my answer / repsonse to a person/s such as he.

I wasn't trying to say anyone could.

I set down with a GC here in my area in 2007, walked him through setting up a website, showed him how to use the system I use on my website, and walked him through a few html codes that he can use that alowws you to skip certain steps and enter links etc., alot faster.
This guy is a college grad, been a licensed gc for 7 years, builds multi million dollar customised homes and still told me, fook this, I'll let blah blah do it for me.

Re: Sales copy for my home page.

Sounds like everyone is getting a little testy. Maybe it's the economy or the fact that the industry is getting tighter. Help your neighbor out, it will come back in spades.

I agree help your colleagues out, and in turn they or someone else will help you. Symbiosis, as I said.

However, who says there is anything wrong with the economy?
