Metal Roof Installation ???

We just got done installing our first metal roof. It was a 2 layer shingle tear off, install ice and water shield on the entire roof and install an r-panel metal. The manufacturer recommends using butyl tape on the overlapping seams - but is not a requirement. The manufacturer says the roof as is, is under warranty and installed correctly, but the owner wants the butyl tape installed.

It is a 60' run, with 2 screws in the flat and one on the overlapping rib every 8'. Am I wrong to say that there is no need for the butyl tape? The pitch on the roof is a 4.5/12

Re: Metal Roof Installation ???

Its more of a question of is the time and effort to install the tape worth having a very happy customer willing to recommend you to family, friends, and neighbors?

Just say no, you installed it to manufacture specs, your duty is done. It is to late for a good refference at this point anyways, All the customer will ever remember is the one thing you did wrong, even if you fix it.
If you already got the check, Move on.

Since you have full ice & water underlay, it will never leak anyway.

Re: Metal Roof Installation ???

My strong opinion is you need to attach butyl tape on roof because the pitch on the roof size is 4.5/12 it is very less and also it is under manufacturer warranty. The tape protects and seals cracks, seams and even small holes on the surface of a roof. In most cases, the tape works best on smooth, dirt- and grit-free roofs. The tape can hold many types of roofing together, such as metal, vinyl, asphalt, cement and tar paper.
