Re: Looks like I'm done for now.

This is exactly the reason why I have been preaching about running a business instead of "being" the business. If you had at least one salesman and at least 2-3 roofers workign with/for you... You'd have been able to continue generating revenue and profit even while you were sick and on light duty.

Re: Looks like I'm done for now.

I was a salesman and roofer, and I had two gangs and a salesman/phone presence. The recession cut me down to one gang, and the medical bills - even after my medical insurance - were the end of me. I live cheaply, but when you get $60,000 of medical bills AFTER insurance, and you only have $20,000 in assets...

I haven't worked in almost five months. My truck was repossessed last month. I'm seriously considering bankruptcy.

On the upside, I bought a very old truck and I've been taking my time getting it into shape. I've been eating better and lost some weight. I took a nice road trip through the smokies in the fall - didn't do any climbing, but the views were nice.

I'm just looking at it as 2009 was not my year, and 2010 is a fresh start.
if it makes you feel any better 2009 was a terrible year for me too. i'm available for work but there is no work to avail of!!! 2010 might well see me back in australia looking for work.

Re: Looks like I'm done for now.

2009 was bad for me but not financially. We almost met our profit goals... But from an employee and management point of view it was a complete and total collapse. I found the limits of those who worked for me and let's just say that most of the people that worked for me don't anymore. We're starting from scratch (almost) and restructuring.

I am now beginning the process of looking for estimators/sales men.

Maybe the first thing you should do is find a babysitter

Re: Looks like I'm done for now.

LOL To Baby sit me?

But then who will baby sit the baby sitter?

I thought I had a baby sitter, erm production manager, but he didn't do a good job of dealing with those day to day head aches. It all fell on my lap.. so why pay someone to do something that I end up doing anyways?

I've got the production side squared away. Now what do I do about the sales side? Hire a sales manager who will then hire a sales man? I'd be ok with that if the sales manager and salesman were worth spit. BTW I don't call them "sales" since that's a bad word. Nobody wants to be sold anything, but I digress.

Re: Looks like I'm done for now.

Maybe you put too much emphasis on titles. Salesman, estimator, Grand Pooh-ba.

Who cares, just go out there and bring me in some work. And it better be at the right price!
