Looks like I'm done for now.

My Doc told me today that I need knee surgery and I can't lift, or climb a ladder for at least 6-8 months after that. If ever. While this is a financial problem, it has left me with a lot of free time to think... "Well, what do I do now?"

So, any fun or interesting ideas?

Try using your experience for getting related office postion with another company, or learn to delegate a lot more and depend on employees and subs to do your physical tasks and labor.

Re: Looks like I'm done for now.

I don't know if I'd be happy in a position with another company after being independent the last few years. And I don't like the idea of having subs to work I can't go up and check. Or do quotes where I can't walk the roof myself. It's like being blind. :/

I have decided there will be some road trips (historic Route 66!) and I will start growing and selling trees again on my seven acres... But all that free time - what would YOU do?

Everyone's all about the work...

Going back to my original post... Now I'm not working... Any fun or interesting ideas of things to do while I take my almost year of time off?

In in Austin, TX, which is in a severe drought. Unfortunately, all the rivers have dried up!

Take some courses at the local Community College with some subjects that interest you, evenif they do have something to do with work.

Leart HTML or PhotoShop or DreamWeaver so you can learn about website stuff.

Re: Looks like I'm done for now.

Hi Joseph.

No, I'm not back to work. The knee surgery was mostly successful, but I haven't got the strength back yet, and I can't kneel or support myself for even a minute. Hours on a roof is impossible.

I haven't worked in almost five months. My truck was repossessed last month. I'm seriously considering bankruptcy.

On the upside, I bought a very old truck and I've been taking my time getting it into shape. I've been eating better and lost some weight. I took a nice road trip through the smokies in the fall - didn't do any climbing, but the views were nice.

I'm just looking at it as 2009 was not my year, and 2010 is a fresh start.
