Driver/Employee Reaction....

The biggest hurtle owners have with Vehicle Tracking units is driver reaction...
  • don't you trust us
  • family member
  • long term employee
  • why you watching me
From a managerial point, utilization of the fleet or getting maybe one/two more jobs a week is the real point. Obviously, using a cell is the standard solution.

But I want to hear from u...:o

I wouldn't worry about what the employees thought. Business is business. Point out the many fraudulent that are filed against companies and how the units can prove or disprove a claim.

Re: Driver/Employee Reaction....

You guys have actually contacted my office, I am pretty sure. Well some company from Glendale Heights trying to sell vehicle GPS did contact us. No offense but I hung up like I do on all telemarketers.

I don't use GPS on my vehicles. I own 2 vans that my employees use. I trust one totally and allow him to take it home. I can care less if he uses it for personal use or not. The other is parked at the office over night 99% of the time. I've let him take it home once or twice before. There has to be some level of trust or he wouldn't be driving my vehicle. If it were completely and 100% free I'd track him.

So why don't I track him? Because I don't care enough to. Because it'd be one more thing for me to pay for, and not use. Because I really don't have the time nor desire to look at tracking logs "Hmmm I wonder where he went today...."

Re: Driver/Employee Reaction....

We have 33 horses in our stable and our GPS tracking keeps the coffee shop stops to a minimum, time clocks accurate and allows us to organize our manpower according to geographic availability. The boys grumbled a little bit at first but that died down very quickly. When you're running 10 roofing crews, 3 window crews, 2 siding crews and several service techs along with all your sales reps, it becomes an invaluable tool. I'm not sure it's for every roofer out there but after you reach a certain size it may be your only option toward maintaining profitability. Let's face it, no matter how much you would like to oversee every job, at some point, the company's growth will get in the way of that and we found the fleet tracking to be the only viable solution.
