Identify fixing point from underneath joist

We undertake a lot of flat roof work where we fix spreader boards, rigid insulation and a further layer of ply. We fix through the top layer of ply directly into the joist below. For years we have marked the fix lines from a reference point and physical joist measurements.
I was wondering whether are there is an electronic device that allows you to identify the fix points above by holding the device directly under the rafter.
